Data Readiness Assessment: Find Out If Your Data Is Ready for Analytics and AI

A structured review of your data sources, quality, pipelines, reporting, governance, and AI readiness — with a scorecard and a prioritized roadmap.

Before you spend months on a data platform, a BI rollout, or an AI project, it's worth answering one question honestly: is your data actually ready? Most teams find out the hard way — halfway through a project, when dashboards don't match, the AI chatbot gives wrong answers, or the migration uncovers years of duplicate records.

A data readiness assessment gives you that answer up front. We review where your data lives, how good it is, how it moves, who can access it, and how well it supports the reporting and AI goals you have. You get a clear score, a list of the problems that matter most, and a prioritized roadmap — so you invest in the right fixes first.

What is a data readiness assessment? A data readiness assessment is a structured review of an organization's data sources, quality, architecture, pipelines, reporting, governance, and AI readiness. It scores current maturity, identifies the gaps that would block analytics or AI projects, and produces a prioritized roadmap of fixes with effort estimates. It is also called a data maturity assessment or data health check.

Read-only access or sample exports, plus short interviews with key people

Options

Free initial data health check call, or a full fixed-fee readiness assessment

When You Need a Data Readiness Assessment

  • Before an AI project. Find out whether your documents and data can support a RAG chatbot, AI agent, or ML model before you build one.

  • Before a BI rollout. Make sure your numbers can be trusted before you put them on dashboards for the whole company.

  • Before a migration or modernization. Know what you're moving, what's broken, and what can be retired.

  • When nobody trusts the numbers. Get an outside, objective view of where the problems really are.

  • After a pilot underperforms. Understand whether the issue is the model, the tool, or the data underneath.

  • When planning your data budget. Prioritize investment based on evidence, not guesswork.

The 7 Areas We Assess

1. Data sources and integration

Which systems hold your data, how they connect, and where manual exports and re-entry happen today.

2. Data quality

Accuracy, completeness, consistency, duplication, and freshness of your key data — measured on real samples, not assumptions.

3. Architecture and storage

Where data is stored, whether there's a single source of truth, and whether the setup will cope with growth.

4. Pipelines and automation

How data moves, how much is automated, and whether failures are monitored or discovered later in wrong reports.

5. Reporting and BI

Which reports exist, how they're built, whether metric definitions are consistent, and how long reporting takes.

6. Governance, security, and access

Who owns each data set, who can see sensitive data, how personal data is handled, and whether access is reviewed.

7. AI readiness

Whether your structured data and documents are clean, structured, labeled, and governed well enough for the AI use cases you're considering.

The Codersarts Data Maturity Levels

Level

Name

What it looks like

1

Ad hoc

Data lives in spreadsheets and individual tools; reports are built by hand; numbers often disagree

2

Connected

Key systems are connected and some reports are automated, but definitions and quality vary

3

Reliable

A central data store, automated pipelines, monitored quality, and agreed metric definitions

4

Self-service

Teams build their own trusted reports on governed data; data ownership is clear

5

AI-ready

Clean, governed, well-documented data and documents power analytics, automation, and AI systems

Most organizations sit between levels 1 and 3. The goal of the assessment is not a high score — it's a clear path to the next level that matters for your goals.

Quick Self-Check: 10 Questions

Answer yes or no. Three or more "no" answers usually mean an assessment will save you time and money on your next data project.

  • Do all teams use the same number for revenue, customers, and other key metrics?

  • Can you produce your main weekly report without manual copying or exporting?

  • Is there one central place where combined business data is stored?

  • Do you know which system is the source of truth for each key data field?

  • Are data pipeline failures alerted automatically?

  • Is data quality checked regularly, rather than only when someone spots a problem?

  • Is sensitive and personal data identified, with access limited to the right people?

  • Is there documentation that explains what your main tables and fields mean?

  • Are your key documents current, versioned, and stored somewhere an AI system could access?

  • Could you measure whether an AI system's answers based on your data are correct?

What You Receive

  • Maturity scorecard — a score for each of the 7 areas, with plain-language explanations

  • Findings report — the specific issues we found, with examples from your own data

  • Prioritized roadmap — what to fix first, second, and later, tied to your business goals

  • Quick wins — fixes that deliver value within weeks

  • Effort and cost ranges — realistic estimates for each roadmap item

  • Readout session — a walkthrough with your team to answer questions and agree next steps

How It Works

Step 1: Kick-off call

We agree your goals — BI, AI, migration, or general health — and identify the systems and people to include.

Step 2: Data access and interviews

You provide read-only access or sample exports. We hold short interviews with the people who produce and use your data.

Step 3: Analysis

We profile data quality, map sources and flows, review reports and access, and check AI readiness against your use cases.

Step 4: Scoring and roadmap

We score each area, prioritize the issues, and build a roadmap with effort estimates.

Step 5: Readout

We present the findings, answer questions, and leave you with the full report and roadmap.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a data readiness assessment and a data maturity assessment?

They are closely related and often used interchangeably. A data maturity assessment scores how advanced your data practices are overall. A data readiness assessment applies that review to a specific goal — such as readiness for BI, a migration, or an AI project.

How long does a data readiness assessment take?

For most small and mid-size organizations, one to two weeks from kick-off to readout. Larger organizations with many systems may take longer, and we agree the timeline at kick-off.

How much does a data readiness assessment cost?

The initial data health check call is free. The full assessment is a fixed fee based on the number of systems and teams in scope, quoted upfront after the call.

What access do you need?

Read-only access to the systems in scope, or sample exports if direct access isn't possible, plus short interviews with a few people who produce and use the data. We sign an NDA before any data is shared.

Will you just recommend that we buy more services?

No. The roadmap is yours to use with your own team or any partner. We prioritize based on your goals, and we'll tell you when the best next step is a small fix rather than a project.

Do we need a data team for this to be useful?

No. Many organizations that benefit most don't have a dedicated data team yet. The report is written in plain language for business leaders, with technical detail in an appendix.

Is this only useful for AI projects?

No. The assessment covers reporting, BI, migration, governance, and general data health. AI readiness is one of the seven areas, and it matters most if AI is on your roadmap.

What happens after the assessment?

You receive the full report and roadmap. You can implement it in-house, with another partner, or with our team — and you can start with the quick wins while planning larger changes.
